The Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve is a large park located near the town of Hillsboro, Southwest of Portland. The preserve contains hundreds of acres of protected wetlands with various trails and observation areas to view the wildlife. As they are adjacent to the wetlands, the paths are all in wide open areas, perfect for a sunny day. The preserve is a popular destination for field trips and other groups because of the wildlife viewing opportunities and the Education Center.

If going here in the Winter, there will be numerous species of nesting birds and other aquatic life such as nutria. It is advised to call ahead during the rainy months as many of the paths will become flooded. During the week, be sure to visit the Education Center for great information on the wetlands, including a real Bald Eagle nest on display!

This is a very easy, family friendly hike. Check it out if you like wetlands or want to check out the birds! For more information, visit the Jackson Bottom site.
